We need a president who will tackle deficit
Bus routes promote school segregation
I wasn surprised to see where Springfield ranked in segregation in the school system throughout the country, based on our switching from school choice to boundary schools. To save a buck on busing, which really wasn enough money to justify the change, Springfield ultimately pushed the calendar back 40 years.
By not allowing families to choose your schools, like in the past, they implement a 2mile radius for kids to walk to school and take away 80 percent of the school buses. If you live in Springfield, you know that different areas in the city are made up of different clearance north face racial groups. For the inner city, that would mean most of the kids at a Rebecca Johnson school will be black. If they live in the North End, the majority at Chestnut will be Spanish. The people running the budget for the city didn care if our children went to a school that was wellrounded, diverse, and educationally challenging for all kids.
Celebrity justice shows system's flaws
I cannot for the life of me get over what is in the news lately. There is Paris Hilton, who has had endless chances to straighten out her deplorable life and has not done so. Yet, the discount north face fleece courts continuously rule in her favor as far as not giving her anything but a slap on the wrist.
Here is the problem. A father who jumped aboard a school bus to confront the bullies who were tormenting his handicapped daughter could face stiff fines and jail time.
What is wrong with this picture? Hilton has the means and connections to do something with her life other than be a drain on society, but chooses to opt for the life with no purpose other than her selfindulgence.
Did the father who got on the bus do wrong? Yes he did, and he admits he lost it. Would you do the same if it was your child? This world is so messed up in our priorities that someone has to take a stand sometimes. If all the hapless people, who could be doing some good, would jump on the bandwagon and give support to organizations like the antibullying and such, this might be a better place in which to raise productive children.
I am backing that father and hope his case is dismissed. Fed up.
Cologne, detergents can cause asthma
Upon reading the article in Thursday paper, Smoking bans help curb kids severe asthma attacks, I couldn help but think that I needed to add to this:
Yes, it is great to know that banning smoking in areas has helped asthmatics, especially the children, but something else that is a hazard is secondary fragrances, not only found in colognes and perfumes, but also in lotions, hairspray, aftershave, detergents, soaps, fabric softeners, plugins, etc., to name a few.
These are toxic to all even though only some are well aware of this. Fragrances are a big seller and money maker, so one wonders if their use will ever be curbed, but there is hope seeing smoking bans went into effect.
